G
Am F C
Did you ever make it back to El Dorado?

[Verse 1]
                 G Am
I'd call and ask, but hell if I know
   F C G Am
If I still got your number or if you care
              F C
You moved away when you was younger
         G Am
Was it escape or was it hunger?
F C G Am
Kansas ain't no place to be a man
               F C
You used to say you'd settle down
               G Am
With that kind girl from school in town
F C G
She was gone before you got back home

[Chorus]
          C G
To El Dorado, hell if I know
Am F
If you're still alive
          C G Am F
There's a note in the glovebox of your drive
       C G
El Dorado, hell if they know
       Am F
The difference in a hero
      C G Am F
And a man I wish was still by my side

[Verse 2]
F
Seventeen years old,
C G Am
how our grins look scary brave
   F C G Am
My momma always said we look so handsome when we shave
F C G Am F
You used to say, "If not you,
          C
then who?"
                   G Am
And you'd go a thousand times or two
         F C G
Now your names up on a sign in El Dorado driving through

[Chorus]
          C G
In El Dorado, hell if I know
Am F
If you're still alive
          C G Am F
There's a note in the glovebox of your drive
       C G
El Dorado, hell if they know
       Am F
The difference in a hero
      C G Am F
And a man I wish was still by my side
          C G Am F
You're in every last memory alive

[Outro]
Am F F C
And I called last week to talk
        G Am
To my favorite old devil dog
     F C G
They told me he had finally headed home
