Lyrics

[Intro]
| D - | Bm7 - | G D/F# | Em7 Asus4 |

[Verse 1]
D Bm7
Look at the two of you dancing that way
G D/F# Em7 A
Lost in the moment and each other’s face
D
So much in love,
            Bm7
you're alone in this place
             G D/F# Em7 Asus4
Like there's nobody else in the world
D Bm7
I was enough for her not long ago
G D/F# Em7 Asus4
I was her number one, she told me so
             D
And she still means the world to me,
Bm7
just so you know
      G D/F# Asus4
So be careful when you hold my girl

[Pre-Chorus]
Bm7
Time changes ev_erything,
G
life must go on
        Asus4 Asus4
And I'm not going to stand in your way

[Chorus]
                      D Bm7
But I loved her first, I held her first
                  G D/F# Em7
And a place in my heart will always be hers
         Asus4 D
From the first breath she breathed
                           Bm7
When she first smiled at me
               G D/F# Em7 Asus4
I knew the love of a father runs deep
      Em7 D/F# G D/F#
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
       Em7 D/F#
But it still hard to give her away,
Asus4 D Bm7 G
     I loved her first

[Verse 2]
D Bm7
How could that beautiful woman with you
G D/F# Em7 Asus4
Be the same freckleface kid that I knew
    D Bm7
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
    G D/F# Asus4
And tucked into bed all those nights

[Pre-Chorus]
    Bm7 G
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
       Asus4
It was only a matter of time

[Chorus]
                  D Bm7
I loved her first and I held her first
                  G D/F# Em7
And a place in my heart will always be hers
         Asus4 D
From the first breath she breathed
                           Bm7
When she first smiled at me
               G D/F# Em7 Asus4
I knew the love of a father runs deep
      Em7 D/F# G D/F#
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
        Em7 D/F# Asus4
But its still hard to give her away
                 D
I loved her first

[Solo]

Em7 Asus4 D

When she first smiled at me
               G D/F# Em7 Asus4
I knew the love of a father runs deep
            Em7 D/F# G D/F#
Someday you might know what I'm going through

When a miracle smiles up at you
