[Intro]

G5

[Verse 1]
D5
He was a silver tongue devil,
F#5
standing there
     B5 A5 G5
He's waiting, he's waiting for a ride
D5 F#5
Looking for a one way out of this town
B5 A5 G5
You know I couldn't let him down
     D5 F#5
So I asked him "How far?" he said "As far as you'll go"
B5 A5 G5
  No, I couldn't say no
D5 F#5
It was a Thursday in September or December
    B5 A5 G5
The last thing I remember was the cloudless sky above

[Pre-Chorus]
E5 D5 G5 A5 B5 A5 G5
E5 D5 G5 A5 B5 A5

[Chorus]
D5 A5 F#5 G5
He said he saw a good friend die
D5 A5 F#5 G5
I never thought to ask him why
D5 A5 F#5 G5
I could have sworn I heard him say he knew who did it
D5 A5 F#5 G5
I could have sworn I heard him say

[Verse 2]
D5 F#5
We headed off into the dead air of the desert
     B5 A5 G5
To a place, to a place I've never known
D5 F#5
He stared into the sun that shone above us
   B5 A5 G5
He smiled and spoke how good it was
D5 F#5
Yet things change and they stay the same
B5 A5 G5
   Home sweet home
D5 F#5
There was a stillness as the light set behind us
    B5 A5 G5
The last thing I remember was the laughter in my ears

[Pre-Chorus]
E5 D5 G5 A5 B5 A5 G5
E5 D5 G5 A5 B5 A5

[Bridge]
E5 G5
Fearless yet fearful I stared into his eyes
       D5
And he grabbed my hand,
and I started to fly
E5
  Ageless and timeless,
  G5
I gave him control
                D5
He said "That's it, my friend,
I own your soul"
E5 G5 B5
I thought I heard him say
  G5 E5 G5
I thought I heard him say

[Chorus]
D5 A5 F#5 G5
He said he saw a good friend die
D5 A5 F#5 G5
I never thought to ask him why
D5 A5 F#5 G5
I could have sworn I heard him say he knew who did it
D5 A5 F#5 G5
I could have sworn I heard him say

[Outro]
D5 A5
F#5 G5 D5 A5
I could have sworn I heard him say
F#5 G5
D5 A5 F#5 G5
I could have sworn I heard him say
D5 A5 F#5 G5 D5
