Maggies Song

[Verse 1]
D Bm
Let me tell you a story
 G5 D
About an old friend of mine
D D/C# G/B A7sus4
Somebody left her in a shopping cart
     G5 A
In a parking lot for us to find
D Bm
 Just a fuzzy black pup
        G5 D
She was hungry and feeling alone
D Bm
We put her in the back seat
G5 D
Told her we were taking her home

[Chorus]
D D/F#
Run Maggie run
              G5 D
With the heart of a rebel child
   D D/F#
Oh run Maggie run
           G5 D
Be just as free as you are wild

[Verse 2]
D Bm
 A few kids later
   G5 D
We moved out on the farm
D D/C# G/B A7sus4
And she followed those kids around
         G5 A
Yes, she kept them safe from harm
D Bm
And she loved to chase squirrels
    G5 D
And playing out in the snow
D Bm
She’d take off like a bullet
   G5 D
Man you should have seen her go

[Chorus]
D D/F#
Run Maggie run
              G5 D
With the heart of a rebel child
   D D/F#
Oh run Maggie run
           G5 D
Be just as free as you are wild

[Interlude]
D D/F# G5 D D D/F# G5 D

[Verse 3]
D Bm
It was raining on a Monday
    G5 D
The day that Maggie died
D D/C# G/B A7sus4
She woke up and couldn’t use her legs
     G5 A
So I laid down by her side
D Bm
She put her head on my hand
             G5 D
Like she’d done so many times
D Bm
I told her she was a good dog
           G5 D
Then I told her goodbye

[Chorus]
D D/F#
Run Maggie run
              G5 D
With the heart of a rebel child
   D D/F#
Oh run Maggie run
           G5 D
Be just as free as you are wild

[Verse 4]
D Bm G5 D
I had a revelation as the tractor dug a hole
D D/C# G/B
I can tell you right now
A7sus4 G5 A
that a dog has a soul
D Bm G5 D
And I thought to myself as we buried her on the hill
D Bm G5 D
I never knew me a better dog and I guess I never will

[Chorus]
D D/F#
Run Maggie run
              G5 D
With the heart of a rebel child
   D D/F#
Oh run Maggie run
           G5 D
Be just as free as you are wild
D D/C# G/B
Run Maggie run
A7sus4 G5 D
With the heart of a rebel child
   D Bm
Oh run Maggie run
           G5 D
Be just as free as you are wild
